Passenger Book Review
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken Book Review
Passenger follows Etta, from the 20th century, and Nicholas, from the 18th century, on a journey to retrieve a hidden object that has the potential to change the world as it is. Etta ,under the threat of losing her mother, and Nicholas, under a deal with one of the war waging families. These two travel together throughout different time periods and solve the riddles and clues left behind to reach their objective.
My first thought of this book was that it involved time travel, so it would surely be an interesting read. It for sure was cool to see the characters travel through historical time periods and interact with their environment. One of their destinations I especially enjoyed reading about was the medieval Damascus. The author introduces the culture a bit within this time period and place such as dressing the characters with cultural attire. It was an interesting way of fusing something the reader might recognize with the characters.
As for the storyline, the events leading up to the ending were dramatic and dangerous, always in the run from disasters. Just when I thought I would see a victory for the characters in the ending, which I very much expected, the author decided to leave the reader in some sort of cliffhanger. Not very nice. Though, I do must admit that it does create suspense and might leave the reader into wanting to further dive into the story. It leaves off with a tinge of hope and adventure.
The author does put in some romance between the protagonists. This basically takes up half of the plot of the story. So if you dislike this type of genre, I suggest not to read this book because its full of love drama. Overall, it had a pretty interesting storyline.

Hi Elda,
ReplyDeleteNice book review! This sounds like an interesting book especially for comparing different time periods. And I agree that books involving time travel tend to be interesting as there are so many unknowns and possible plot twists.

I really enjoy Sci-fi books, and using time travel is always an interesting thing to put into books. It's cool how this book uses the future and time travel to talk about historical events in the past. I agree with you about the disappointment of cliffhangers
