Darius The Great Is Not Okay

Image
Darius The Great Is Not Okay Today, I am going to be talking about the book, Darius the Great Is Not Okay , by Adib Khorram. The book starts by introducing Darius Kellner, a sophomore in high school in Portland, Oregon. He has a younger sister, named Laleh, who is in second grade. Their father, Stephen, is from Europe, and their mother, Shirin, is from Iran, and these parents immigrated to the US. Darius’s father, who suffers from depression, constantly criticizes Darius in ways which make Darius believe his troubles are his own responsibility. Darius's ethnicity, as well as his physical and mental state make him a prime target for bullying at school. But at home, he and his family are still connected to Iranian tradition by talking to his mom’s side of his family through video calls, as well as celebrating Persian traditions. Life is normal, until his grandfather is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, prompting Darius’s parents to take their family to Iran for the first time

5 Total Strangers by Natalie D. Richards Book Review      5 Total Strangers starts off with Mira, a high schooler, traveling home to spend her Christmas with her family. At a layover, a snowstorm is announced that impedes Mira from traveling further. That is until a stranger she met on her previous flight offers her a ride home with 3 other strangers. The passengers attempt to drive through the snowstorm and encounter mysterious and dangerous phenomenona.      From the moment she accepted the ride from a STRANGER, I knew that she would be in trouble. She was thinking of how she needed to support her mother through the traumatizing events that occurred during that time of the year. Even though she was only thinking about her mother when she accepted the ride, it was not a complete reasonable decision. The worst part was that she accepted the ride knowing that there was a snowstorm happening outside. In the end, she only

LISTEN UP YOU LITTLE POTATO PATTIES ANGIE THOMAS IS BACK AGAIN WITH ANOTHER BANGER

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Angie Thomas, amiright?  After she dropped her absolute BANGER of a book, The Hate you Give, she blessed us with another manuscript from the gods, titled On the Come up. It highlights the life of a young rapper, Brianna, trying to juggle her grades with her aspirations of singing. However, things get more complicated when her aunt conducts weedy shenanigans in order to keep their family afloat and Brianna starts keeping secrets on who actually is helping her sing. It's a story about internal and external struggle, about a family being torn apart and Brianna navigating the forest in order to find her true self.  Now now, I know what you might be thinking: “man, this sounds like the average book of ‘finding oneself’ and ‘drugs’”, but boy oh boy, let me tell you it is so much more than that. To me, this book represented a story of how external struggles could break a family apart, how one girls dream’s could become be thwarted no matter
