5 Total Strangers Book Review
5 Total Strangers by Natalie D. Richards Book Review
5 Total Strangers starts off with Mira, a high schooler, traveling home to spend her Christmas with her family. At a layover, a snowstorm is announced that impedes Mira from traveling further. That is until a stranger she met on her previous flight offers her a ride home with 3 other strangers. Mira, wanting to get home as fast as possible, accepts the ride. The passengers attempt to drive through the snowstorm and encounter mysterious and dangerous phenomenona.
From the moment she accepted the ride from a STRANGER, I knew that she would be in trouble. She was thinking of how she needed to support her mother through the traumatizing events that occurred during that time of the year. Even though she was only thinking about her mother when she accepted the ride, it was not a complete reasonable decision. The worst part was that she accepted the ride knowing that there was a snowstorm happening outside. In the end, she only made things worse.
Honestly, I'm not mad. The dramatic, dangerous, mysterious events were top-notch. I was always at the edge of my seat, both because of internal and external influences during the journey. In the beginning, while the story was developing, there were letters addressed to the protagonist. At first I was like, "aww, hey, secret admirer". As I read more letters at each interval of the story, I was like, "oh, hey, stalker". Then, the characters were faced with the gruesome snowstorm (surprise, surprise), and there were a lot of almost-dead experiences. To top it off, belongings were also mysteriously missing. Yes, they all pointed fingers at each other. It was interesting to see how the author tied these puzzle pieces together to form the bigger picture.
Morals Learned:
-stranger danger
-always trust your gut feeling
-don't go out in the middle of a snowstorm
-risks come with consequences
This for sure was a hectic ride. I absolutely loved this book. I often found myself acting as a detective and trying to find who the stalker and thieve was. Though, I wouldn't say I succeeded. The only thing I would have hoped for is a longer after story. Overall, 10 out of 10.

Hi Elda, it sounds like Mira made a dumb decision and ended up in a dangerous car with 4 strangers. The book sounds really entertaining. I liked how you added a section about the morals you learned. Great Review!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love Mira. Sacrificing herself for the good story. #dieyoung.
ReplyDeleteHi Elda,
ReplyDeleteI have never read Five Total Stranger, but it sounds like it has a compelling plot. As soon as you said that she gets in the car with a stranger I thought about all those times in Kindergarten when they talk about stranger danger. It also sounds like an interesting book because you get to act like a detective.

Elda, this book sounds like a classic "main character makes a seemingly trivial decision that ends up affecting their entire life" kind of story. It's interesting how the snowstorm further affected her journey, which I would like to know more about. Overall, great job!
