Spy x Family Book 1 Review

Spy X Family Book 1 Review

Spy x Family is a manga series that follows a skilled spy receiving an assignment to "make a child" and marry. Loid searches in orphanages and comes across Anya, who more or less manages to trick him into becoming his child with her telepathic superpowers. He then gets proposed to by Yor, someone he meets at a boutique, while running away from the people trying to attack them after a party they attended together. Little does he know that Yor is a secret assassin. Now that he has a family of his own, he registers Anya into an elite school that powerful rich people attend to. This allows him to investigate a suspicious person who is a threat to the peace between the East and the West who is involved with the school.

I've heard about the animated series, but I had no idea that there were based on the manga series. This was my first manga read ever, and I'm glad to say that it was fit to be. I'll first start with the family dynamic. Loid is a self high regarded professional spy. Anya is a dedicated inquisitive child. And Yor has a sweet but intimidating personality. It was a perfect combination with very interesting individuals. I think that that was what made it humorous. I feel like their personalities really went well together.

I really enjoyed the last few pages of this book that were really hilarious to me and at the same time very sweet. Once they infiltrated the elite school, they attend together for an interview and are tested by the school's faculty. This was probably my favorite part of the book. It was funny to see the family impressing the school faculty. When they get interviewed, I also really enjoyed how they stand up for each other.

This book should be recommended to everyone you see, except maybe a really young audience since it does include some gory images and perhaps comments about murder. There are a total of 11 books in total, so I'm really excited to read all of them soon. Since the first book was not long, I'm positive that I can binge the whole series in one go. This book is definitely a 10/10.
